Baptist Operation Outreach

Baptist has been providing free health care to Memphis' homeless community since 1997 when it opened the HOPE Health Center for the Homeless and those unhoused or experiencing temporary housing. In 2005, Baptist partnered with Christ Community Health Services to officially start the Baptist Operation Outreach mobile clinic for those unhoused or experiencing temporary housing. When the program first started, the mobile clinic had about 500 patient encounters a year. Today, Baptist Operation Outreach is one of Memphis' largest health care provider for those unhoused or experiencing temporary housing, and the clinic has had more than 3,000 patient encounters a year.

In 2019, Baptist Operation Outreach expanded the mobile clinic to include a primary health care clinic location inside of Memphis Catholic Charities at 1325 Jefferson Ave. This location is open three days a week — Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays — from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Baptist Operation Outreach mobile clinic continues to visit churches and other areas with large homeless populations upon request, including the following locations:

• Memphis Union Mission at 383 Poplar Ave. on Mondays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Room in the Inn- Memphis at 409 Ayers Street on the third Thursday afternoon of each month from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
• Willie Mae Brooks Building at 1300 Jackson Ave. on the first and third Wednesday afternoon of each month from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
• Memphis & Shelby County Office of Re-Entry at 1362 Mississippi Blvd. on the second Wednesday afternoon of each month from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Baptist Operation Outreach is funded through contributions from Baptist Memorial Health Care, Christ Community Health Services, Tennessee's Health Care Safety Net, the Health Resources and Services Administration and private individuals.
