Why did you choose pharmacy as a career?
I chose to become a pharmacist after seeing how my grandfather’s health care team took great care of him during his cancer journey. I really love how we can make a difference in the lives of patients during stressful and overwhelming moments in their lives. I also love how we make meaningful interventions every day. I hope to become an oncology or palliative care pharmacist so I can help other families like mine.
Why did you choose Baptist?
I chose Baptist because of the friendly and warm atmosphere I experienced during my interview. I am also very interested in oncology, and I like that Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis has a large, talented and experienced oncology department.
What is your day like?
Each day is different depending on the rotation. Usually, I get to work and get to know my patients on the floor I am rounding on. I look at labs, vitals and any medications that need to be adjusted. I also complete pharmacy consults, including antibiotic dosing and stroke and heart failure medication interventions. I enjoy going to rounds and working with different members in the health care team.
What's your favorite thing about Memphis?
The people. Everyone has been extremely helpful and kind to me as I moved here from out-of-state.
Why would you recommend Baptist to a prospective applicant?
Baptist is a wonderful place to grow as a health care professional. I love how we have different rotation opportunities and that there is something for everyone, from the intensive care unit (ICU) to transplant to hematology/oncology. Everyone is here to help you succeed.

Why did you choose pharmacy as a career?
I have many people in my family who are in the medical field. I knew that I wanted to be in medicine, but I wasn't sure where. I have always loved forensics, and pharmacy to me is medical forensics. Matching the correct antibiotic to the organism, monitoring for drug interactions and deducing which medication may be responsible for an adverse reaction. Additionally, my grandfather was impacted greatly by a pharmacist who helped him better understand his diabetes, which left a lasting impact on me and helped solidify that I wanted to be a pharmacist.
Why did you choose Baptist?
The culture of the pharmacy department stood out to me as a great place to complete a residency. I'm glad to say that I was right.
What is your day like?
It depends on the rotation, and as I write this I am currently on the cardiovascular intensive care unit (CVICU) rotation. I work up my patients for rounds in the morning and attend rounds at 9 a.m. After rounds, I meet with my preceptor to go through my patients and complete the pharmacy consults. We also complete discussions on various cardiovascular topics. Being able to make an impact on a patient is very rewarding.
What's your favorite thing about Memphis?
The Southern hospitality.
Why would you recommend Baptist to a prospective applicant?
I recommend Baptist because of the culture and people that make this hospital a great work environment.

Bachelor of Science in chemistry; Georgia State University; Atlanta, GA; 2018
Pharmacy degree
Mercer University, College of Pharmacy; Atlanta, GA; 2025
About Andre
Andre Golshir is originally from Atlanta, GA. His professional interests include cardiology and internal medicine. Outside of pharmacy, he enjoys watching sports, exploring new restaurants and spending quality time with his family.
Why did you choose pharmacy as a career?
I chose pharmacy because I’ve always been drawn to the impact medications can have on patient outcomes, and my interest in cardiology specifically was sparked after I had the opportunity to watch a mitral valve repair surgery performed via robot. Seeing the precision of the surgery and the complexity of caring for those patients afterward inspired me to want to be part of the team that optimizes their recovery. From that point on, I knew I wanted to become a cardiology pharmacist so I could play a direct role in managing therapies for patients with advanced cardiovascular disease.
Why did you choose Baptist?
I chose Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis for my pharmacy residency because it is a leading cardiac center, offering a unique opportunity to gain experience in managing complex cardiovascular conditions. The hospital’s reputation for advanced cardiac care, including comprehensive services in heart failure, acute coronary syndromes and cardiac surgery, aligns with my career interest in cardiology. Training in such a high-acuity environment will allow me to work alongside a multidisciplinary team, develop specialized clinical skills, and contribute to optimizing outcomes for patients with some of the most challenging cardiovascular diseases.
What is your day like?
A typical day for me involves collaborating with the health care team on patient care, reviewing medication regimens, monitoring laboratory results and ensuring therapies are optimized for both safety and efficacy. One of the biggest challenges is managing the fast pace and the constant need to prioritize between urgent issues and ongoing responsibilities. At the same time, that challenge is also what makes my day rewarding, knowing that my clinical input directly impacts patient outcomes, whether it’s adjusting a therapy to improve safety, catching a potential interaction, or helping patients and families better understand their medications.
What's your favorite thing about Memphis?
My favorite thing about Memphis is how easy it is to get around. Coming from Atlanta, where traffic can be heavy and getting anywhere often takes a lot of time, I really appreciate that in Memphis everything is close by and much more accessible. It makes it easier to balance work and life, and I enjoy being able to quickly get to different parts of the city without the stress of long commutes.
Why would you recommend Baptist to a prospective applicant?
I would recommend Baptist to a prospective applicant because it’s a place where you can truly grow, both clinically and personally. The culture here emphasizes teaching and mentorship, so you’re not only gaining valuable training but also contributing to the growth of those around you who are learning. On top of that, the atmosphere reflects genuine Southern hospitality—people are welcoming, supportive and invested in seeing each other succeed. It creates an environment that feels both challenging and encouraging, which I think is an ideal setting for residency.

Why did you choose pharmacy as a career?
I chose pharmacy because of the wide impact I can have on people's lives. The impact my childhood pharmacist had on me set me up for the future. He used to compound special medications for my eczema. It was something tailored just for me when nothing else worked. That experience showed me how pharmacists do more than just fill prescriptions, as they solve problems in unique ways. As I learned more, I saw how broad the field is, from clinical care to research to community health, and I knew it was the right path. It's a profession where I can combine science, compassion and real-world impact to make a difference.
Why did you choose Baptist?
I chose Baptist because of the culture. I am very big in my Chirstian faith, and I really see that Baptist takes the name seriously by putting faith at the top of patient care. When I interviewed at Baptist, I could feel the warmth from all the pharmacy staff. It is a welcoming environment for resident pharmacists. I have learned so much in my time here and can't wait to learn and grow more as a clinician.
What is your day like?
A day in the life of a PGY-1 pharmacy resident here can change at a moment’s notice, and that's one thing I love about this program. There are never any boring days, and you will see something new almost every day.
What's your favorite thing about Memphis?
I love the food in Memphis. I've been here for almost five years, and I am always finding a new restaurant to try. The city also has some of the best public golf courses for the price and conditions. It is also very centrally located, so traveling can be pretty easy for weekends away.
Why would you recommend Baptist to a prospective applicant?
I would recommend Baptist because the preceptors care about your learning. They are very receptive and will help you in any way possible. I am very pleased with my experience so far, and I only expect to gain more from the program.
