Why did you choose Baptist?
I chose Baptist after attending the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists’ Midyear Clinical Meeting and speaking with the pharmacy residents, who were minorities like me. They spoke highly of their experiences at Baptist and emphasized their clinical growth as pharmacists. I love that Baptist is a faith-based hospital system committed to delivering quality health care, and their mission aligns with my personal values.

What is your day like?
My days vary based upon the location I am working in. I spend most of my time working at Baptist Walnut Grove Plaza Pharmacy, located in Baptist Memphis, as well as educating patients on Baptist’s Meds to Beds program. Through this program I spend time delivering and counseling patients before they discharge. As an outpatient resident, I also get the unique opportunity to work with patients in our ambulatory care clinics. The most rewarding part of my day is getting build personal connections with patients to help them better understand more about their medications and their overall health.

What's your favorite thing about Memphis?
The food is very good here and I hope to be able to try some new restaurants in the near future.

Why did you choose pharmacy as a career?
I chose this career because of the lack of representation for people that looked like me throughout the profession. I wanted to be able to make an impact while providing a sense of trust and relatability for people in my community as it pertains to health care.

Why would you recommend Baptist to a prospective applicant?
I would recommend Baptist to a prospective applicant for several reasons. The outpatient residency program offers unique opportunities given that it is inside the hospital. When I’m not working in the outpatient pharmacy, I get to participate in ambulatory care clinics and transitions of care. The people at Baptist are always very helpful, no matter the profession. The support that I continuously receive from the residency program director and co-director is amazing. I am continuously challenged at Baptist, which helps me grow as a professional.

Depending on the preceptor, I may shadow them up to the first half of the day, have lunch and then study for the remainder of the day. Right now, the only challenge is studying for my licensure exams. The most rewarding part of my day is when I finish studying a chapter in my RX prep book.

Why would you recommend Baptist to a prospective applicant?
I would recommend Baptist to a prospective applicant mainly because the Baptist family is so welcoming, and everyone is willing to help no matter the field.
