Why did you choose pharmacy as a career?
Many of the attributes that a pharmacist has are very much aligned with my innate skillset such as compassion for others, attention to detail, love of learning and organization. After spending time with a hospital pharmacist in high school, I knew pharmacy would be the perfect career for me. I love that pharmacy's focus is on putting patients first while also utilizing problem solving skills on a daily basis.
Why did you choose Baptist?
Mississippi Baptist Medical Center is the best learning environment. All of the pharmacists are approachable and eager to help you learn. I have seen so much growth in myself both professionally and personally throughout my time at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center first as an Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) student and now as a pharmacy resident. I am so thankful for each pharmacist at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center and their constant encouragement as I begin my career as a pharmacist.
What is your day like?
With each month presenting a different rotation, I am doing something new every day. I love how every day is different but is still grounded in providing the highest level of patient care regardless of what I am doing.
What's your favorite thing about Jackson?
My favorite thing about Jackson is all the fun and yummy restaurants.

Why did you choose pharmacy as a career?
I always knew I wanted a career in health care, but it wasn't until I shadowed pharmacists that I realized how much I enjoyed the field and could truly see myself in this role and making a meaningful impact on patients' lives while doing work I find rewarding.
Why did you choose Baptist?
I chose Baptist because of the welcoming environment I experienced during my time working as a student and while on my Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) rotation. The preceptors create a supportive space to learn and ask questions, take on challenges and grow as a pharmacist. I was also drawn to the strong sense of teamwork and collaboration among the pharmacists and the genuine commitment to resident and student development.
What is your day like?
My day will vary depending on the rotation I am currently on, but typically will begin with patient workups where I review cases, make evidence-based recommendations and then document these findings and recommendations in patient notes. In the afternoons, I follow up on patient progress, review labs, address new consults and participate in discussions with the pharmacy team. The most rewarding part of my day is seeing the positive impact my recommendations have on patient outcomes.
Why would you recommend Baptist to a prospective applicant?
I would recommend Mississippi Baptist Medical Center pharmacy residency program because of the truly supportive environment that is offered. The preceptors are genuinely invested in your growth and with protocols and collaborative practice agreements in place, pharmacists get to play an active role in patient care and decision making. All of this makes it a great place to build clinical skills and grow as a pharmacist.
