Groner Fellowship Program
Developing the next generation of leaders
The Dr. Frank Groner Administrative Fellowship Program at Baptist Memorial Health Care is an immersive, one-year training opportunity where fellows learn and work with the guidance of executive-level leadership. The Fellowship begins in June and is completed in May of the following year, during which participating fellows experience broad exposure to every aspect of a faith-based integrated comprehensive regional health care system, ranging from inpatient care and outpatient services to medical clinics and telehealth, across a three-state region.
The administrative fellowship is configured into three phases. In the first phase, fellows spend time in the corporate offices learning about the overall management of the system. Emphasis is placed on gaining knowledge about the system support services, including strategic planning, operational management, managed care, finance, human resources, quality, legal, marketing, government relations and clinical service lines supporting cardiology, neurology, oncology, pediatrics, and many other areas.
Fellows spend the second phase of their fellowship in the operating entities of the health care system, including all 24 hospitals. Fellows also gain frontline access to the operations of the Baptist Medical Group clinics with over 900 providers, Baptist outpatient surgery and imaging centers, home care, hospice, emergency services, and telemedicine.
During the third phase, fellows begin applying their knowledge and developing their management skills as they are asked to support and lead innovation teams through active projects for the health system.
Upon completion of the Dr. Frank Grover Fellowship, graduates will have gained a broad and in-depth understanding of the technical aspects of operating a comprehensive health care system, with the leadership skills needed to transition into an administrative health system leadership role.
Our Preceptors
Experience a true mentorship
Throughout the 12-month fellowship, the Dr. Frank Groner Fellow works directly with two preceptors – Baptist’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Jason Little, and Chief Strategy Officer, Mr. Zach Chandler. These two executive leaders guide the fellows personally throughout the fellowship. Additionally, fellows are closely mentored in all phases of the fellowship by Baptist executive leaders throughout the health care system, including members of the Senior Leadership Team, hospital and medical group CEOs, and corporate system services.
